A one-day journey along the Raate Road takes you into the heart of Winter War history. The route passes the impressive Winter War Monument, continues to the museum exhibitions, follows the Purasjoki frontline, and ends at the Raate Frontier Guard Museum. Along the way, the stories of war, rugged nature, and silent landscapes create a powerful and memorable experience.

The Raate Road one-day tour takes you deep into the history of the Winter War and the landscapes where decisive events once took place. The day begins at the impressive Winter War Monument, where silence and vast scenery create a powerful moment of remembrance.
Next, you visit the Winter War Museum, where exhibitions illustrate the course of the war, human destinies, and the region’s significance in Finnish history. The museum is open from May to September/October daily, making it easy to include in your schedule. A café is also available for a break.
After the museum visit, the journey continues toward the Raate Frontier Guard Museum. The distance is about 18 km on a gravel road, offering a scenic transition as part of the experience, surrounded by rugged wilderness and silence.
At the Raate Frontier Guard Museum, you will explore the history of the border region and the events of the Raate Road. The museum is open from June to August, and admission is free, making it an accessible stop.
