The stone field covers an area of about 3 ha and contains about 17 000 stones commemorating the victims and sufferings of the war.

The central memorial “Open Arms” consists of four wooden arches, topped by 105 brass bells ringing in the wind, one for each day of the Winter War. The memorial was designed by Erkki Pullinen from Suomussalmi.
