View route

Bear watching in Suomussalmi is a unique nature experience that takes you deep into the wilderness of Kainuu. You can spend an evening or even a full night observing bears in their natural habitat from safe observation hides.
The bear watching season lasts from spring until mid-August, with the best chances to see bears in the evening and night-time. At the same time, you can experience the silence of the wilderness, the midnight light, or a star-filled sky.

There are three bear watching locations in Suomussalmi: Arola, Martinselkonen Wilds Centre, and Hossa Karhut. Arola and Martinselkonen Wilds Centre offer accommodation and meals, while Hossa Karhut provides only the
excursion experience.
