Snowshoeing

On snowshoes, you are not bound to tracks

There is a lot of different terrain suitable for snowshoeing all around Suomussalmi both near the parish centre and in Hossa National Park. How about climbing the slopes of the Musical Forest or trekking across the lake to Turjanlinna pier? The resting places along hiking trails can be reached on snowshoes even if there was no maintained winter route. They are nice places to stop and grill a sausage on an open fire in the wintertime, too.
