Kurimo Culture trail Ämmänsaari

The lush green of the trees and the singing birds are back as the snowbanks melt in the warmth of the May sun!

The Spring Morning Bird Choir sings beautifully in the Kurimo Forest, with the sounds of both old-growth forest and farmyard bird species. There are holes in the old trees for colophon, which have plenty of insects to eat. And in the old wooden shacks, even a porpoise can escape from the wild!

No winter maintenance on the trails.

The 0.3 km Blue Trail is wheelchair-accessible trail built in a courtyard where the walls of the old log buildings have signposts with photos and text telling the story of Old House of Kurimo: its complex history and present day.

The opening of the Children’s Fairytale Trail took place in June 2019, with a wide range of activities for the whole family, including trick horses and troubadours. Wild food was enjoyed in the Kurimo Old House and the accordions played so wistfully all day! A children’s fairytale trail was built on the Blue Trail, which is great for the whole family. There you can spot an owl, look for geocaches and watch fairies in the trees, as well as explore the nature photography exhibition at the blacksmith’s forge!

The slightly more demanding Red Trail 1.5 km starts from the same place, and circles the Kurimo Nature Reserve (6.5 ha). Along the trail there are nature guide signs in the forest.
