Hossa Rock Paintings

The Hossa National Park is rich in history. Its waterways have been used since ancient times as routes to the Arctic Ocean and the White Sea. The oldest known settlements in the park date back as far as 10,000 years.

The prehistoric rock paintings at Julma-Ölkky and Värikallio were created along these ancient travel routes. The figures were painted onto steep cliffs that descend directly into the water—either from boats or while standing on the frozen lake surface. Come and experience the echoes of prehistory and explore the Hossa rock paintings!
