Ämmän Päre – An environment art made of Steel
Ämmänpäre is a steel environmental artwork designed by artist Aleksi Jaakkola. Light is emitted in two directions from the work, reacting to changes in humidity and reflective surfaces, making the light visible.
The reddish light and the linear reflections of natural phenomena it creates can be associated with Ilmari Kianto’s Red Line, the colour of lingonberries and the reddish rock paintings of Hossa.
The circular shape of the work refers to berries, which are a strong part of our culture. Unveiled on 31 December 2017 as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the municipality of Suomussalmi, it is located in Jätkänpuisto park.
