Memorial of Paukuttajavaara

When the Winter War started in November in 1939, some people who lived in Suomussalmi couldn’t be evacuated and needed to stay at their homes though the battles around. In January 1939 Soviet air crafts appeared above Paukuttajavaara and the people there ran and tried to hide. The soviets of course saw that and bombed the area. All eleven people died.

The memorial was revealed in January 12th in 2005.
