In February, on the snowy spring of Kainuu’s eastern border, the vast silence of the wilderness is filled with the brilliant light of a spring day. At its best, the skier is treated to stunning views of trees covered in frost and the bright white snowdrifts, all set against the backdrop of rugged hills that sparkle under the gently warming rays of the sun. But nature can also be merciless, with challenges like biting cold or a fierce snowstorm.
Skiing distances for every taste
The event, starting from Arola, Martinselkonen, and Purakka, offers ski distances of 100 km, 78 km, and 40 km in the classic skiing style. The event is timed and includes a bit of friendly competition, but above all, it’s meant to be enjoyed — each in their own way.
